It is about a photographer on an outing that fell from a waterfall into shallow water and broke his pelvis and more. He wasn’t even able to pull himself out of the water.

He had purchased this device called the Spot Personal Beacon and happened to have it on him physically rather than in the camera bag. I get the impression he would not have been able to get to his camera bag. It is an interesting story and you can click the link below to read the whole thing.
